Welcome to the latest Poetry News Members' Poems Competition! Every quarter, we invite Members to submit poems on a theme set by our judge, a professional poet. The six best are published in Poetry News and on our dedicated Members' poems webpage.

The autumn competition will be judged by John McCullough. John's most recent collection Reckless Paper Birds (Penned in the Margins) won the 2020 Hawthornden Prize  and was shortlisted for the Costa Poetry Award. His poem ‘Flower of Sulphur’ is shortlisted for the 2021 Forward Prize for Best Single Poem.

  • Please send no more than two poems. Any additional submissions will be disregarded. Both poems must be unpublished.
  • Note, this competition is ONLY for Members of The Poetry Society; if you're not a member, we're sorry to say your entry cannot be considered. Being able to enter these quarterly competitions is a benefit of membership. To find out about how you can join, please visit our website.

We use Submittable to accept and review our submissions.
